PCI compliance is a critical component of any retailer’s business. In recent months, more and more private consumer information is falling into the wrong hands as a result of inadequate security precautions on the part of retail establishments. As retailer’s increase their reliance on wireless technologies for improving customer service, the risks increase exponentially.

The new Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) version 1.2, released in October 2008, includes a number of changes, updates and clarifications that affect anyone involved in the storage, processing or transmission of credit card information. Cardholder data stored on a corporate network is vulnerable to theft through wireless attacks and since wireless signals penetrate through walls, it is impossible to lock down wireless devices using physical security. Therefore, the PCI DSS has greatly emphasized wireless security. Click here for more information about PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

As a new component of the nine suite of managed services, nineSecure focuses on wireless security and regulatory compliance. Common risks to wireless networks include:

  • Misconfigured access points resulting in inadequate security
  • Authorized clients associating to unauthorized access points
  • Unauthorized access points attached to the corporate network
  • Denial of Service (DoS) attacks
